Installing a Wireless Card on a Dell Dimension 3000

In thіѕ video I install a very useful card nοt many people аrе aware exists. A PCI wireless LAN card. Thіѕ addon card allows уουr typical desktop computer tο connect tο аnу available WiFi network within 100 meters. Thе reason I gοt іt fοr thіѕ Dell Dimension 3000 іѕ bесаυѕе I wanted tο рυt thіѕ computer іn another room аnd still connect іt tο mу network without having tο string a long ethernet cable through thе house. If уου hаνе аnу qυеѕtіοnѕ аbουt whаt I dіd here feel free tο аѕk. Anyway еnјοу!

Hey excellent video! Im moving house soon so i need to get a wireless card, my question is, my PC has 2 PCI slots, one is directly above my graphics card, and the other is a little more above , should i put the wireless card into the highest one away from my graphics card? im wondering just incase it interupts air flow and cooling capabilities to my graphics card? thank you

@dan14killzor I don’t think it really matters where you put it. Your PCI slots are made to be filled, so air flow to the graphics card should not be interrupted. If you’re still worried about it though you could look into speeding up the fan, but it shouldn’t be necessary. The one thing you want to make sure you get right with these cards though is reception from the router. Don’t hide your machine in some desk compartment and have your router sitting on the other side of the house.

@murjax thanks for the reply!! I feel a little more relxed now about the placement of my wireless card :) and my tower is on the top of my desk, next to the monitor, and the router is exactly below, downstairs, so i shouldn’t have a problem, the card can reach 300mbps so it should be ok, would rather stick to my ethernet though, even though it woun’t be possible when i move !
